First trip to Utah

Image
We spend President's Day weekend in Salt Lake, visiting Nanima, Nanaji and Masi. Saha had a great time, with lots of space to run around and lots of people to dote on her. She has gotten a lot better and getting up from the floor without having to pull up on anything and she has the balance now to bend over and pick something up without falling down. Saha also picked up two more sounds "na" and "ma"! (finally!!!!) On our way home at the airport, she even pointed at me and said "Mom!" which was amazing (although we couldn't get her to do it again). Below are some pictures. I'll put up some videos in a couple days. Trying to figure out how to edit stuff taken on the ipod on my computer. Grandpa visits!

Jay was out visiting for the weekend and last night we met Kyrsten, Dave, Kaylin, PJ, Meg and Grace for dinner. Here's a pic from after dinner.

New foods and new understandings

Yesterday we went to have Ethiopian food with Jay (grandpa's in town!) and his friend Rick. Jay was in town for a meeting and he is staying the weekend. We had gone to eat Ethiopian when Priya and Mike were here and Saha had her first taste if injera bread, which she loved. She had some more last night but this time she also had some of the lentils from the plate and also a bit of the good juice-soaked injera from underneath the different dishes and she loved them all. We really say that she's now eaten Ethiopian food. This morning I also know definitively that Saha understands the word "clap." I had just finished changing her and she was lying on the table. Without making any motions, I said "Clap, clap, clap, Saha, clap, clap, clap," and she did! We are also pretty sure that she understands the word "kiss" because more than half the time we say "give me a kiss" we'll either get one on the cheek, shoulder, etc, or she will blow us ...

Birthday! (a little early)

Saha received her 1st first birthday present, a rocking horse. Thank you Rohit uncle and Mridula aunti! Looks like the celebrations have already begun! Here's a video of two clips, one from last night after I put together the rocking horse and another from this afternoon.

Update

Saha is getting really good at giving kisses, both on you cheek (or shoulder, or arm or foot, or wherever she feels like it) and blowing kisses. About half the time when you ask for a kiss will she give you or blow you one. Here are some random photos from last week. Saha playing on her carseat, which is part of the barrier between living and dining room. Saha under the coffee table. She likes to crawl under it to get to the lamp and the garbage can, which of course are not allowed objects for her to play with. Saha giving her toys kisses (the duplo container lid) Thanks to Nanima and Nanaji for the duplos. She loves to throw them out of the box and to knock down towers that mom and dad make. Saha is getting to be an even better walker and she is getting so much better at breaking through our "barriers" that we have made to keep her in the living room. She has gotten so good at getting through to the dining room and kitchen that we bought a baby fence with a ga...
