Birthday Cake

I'm trying to decide if Saha's birthday cake should be Elmo or Dora themed. She is currently equally obsessed with both. Here is some supporting evidence for both: Elmo: She has a small Elmo doll that she MUST sleep with. In the morning, said doll must also go with her to the bathroom until she will use the potty. Yesterday morning, she wanted to take the small Elmo downstairs and I had to bring the big one up from downstairs so that she would come down for breakfast. She then wanted Elmo to sit on the table and "watch" her eat breakfast. There is also an Elmo book that she must sleep with. Dora: As soon as we walk into the house every evening, Saha immediately says, "Dora, TV?" and proceeds to go over and turn on the TV (yes she's now tall enough to reach the button at the bottom). She also loves to say "Aw Man!" which is what Swiper the Fox says. She also constantly says "Dora, Boots! Dora, Boots!" and "Swiper fox, Swiper...

December 3-4, Scottish Parade, Boat Parade and Decorating our Christmas Tree

Image
The first weekend of December was sunny and cool and we went downtown to watch the Alexandria Scottish Parade. We didn't realized that it was also a dog parade, which Saha just loved. A few images from the boat parade. People decorate their boats with lights, etc. and then drive them from DC down to the Wilson Bridge (past the Alexandria Marina). Saha really liked the boats, too. November 24-27, Thanksgiving 2011

Image
For Thanksgiving this year we went up to Allen's sister's, just south of Philadelphia. Priya and Mike joined us there for the weekend. We had a great time, lots of good food and Saha had a pretty accident free weekend, only 3 accidents over 4 days, which is pretty good considering we had just done our potty training blitz 2 weeks prior. Here's the amazing spread! The awesome company! Fun little turkey pilgrims that we made Priya made an awesome Mexican Chocolate Cake with cinnamon marscapone frosting, yum! I helped her frost it. Tasting the frosting :-) MMMM frosting!!! (she didn't actually eat it) The dessert spread. I made the pecan pies and the braided apple streudel. Did i mention that it's a layer cake? Around the fire pit after dinner, making s'mores. New baby Jude and his big sister Belle (Dave's brother Matthew and sister-in-law Kristy's kids). Jude is about a week old in this picture...

November 6, 2011 - Roosevelt Island

Image
We had a really beautiful Sunday and decided to take a trip to Roosevelt, Island, where we had never been before. We picked up some breakfast sandwiches and drove on up. It's a small island in the middle of the Potomac River, south of Georgetown. There are some trails around the island (we did the main loop around) and there's a big monument to Theodore Roosevelt in the middle. Looking at the ducks A really cool fallen log that had roots growing on it. Pretty fall colors Crossing the bridge back to the parking area.

Halloween 2011

Image
Saha got to be two different things for Halloween this year. We had a big neighborhood party on Sunday, the 30th out in the park behind our house. It was great to get to know a munch of our neighbors and see all the kids dressed up. We walked over to the Del Ray Halloween Parade after the party and this one costume pair amused me. Our costumes. Can you guess who I am? Saha's second costume, for Halloween Day They turned one of the blocks of public housing by our house into a haunted house (it's slated for demolition and redevelopment imminently) Here's how they decorated the buildings. And here's my pumpkin for this year. Here's a link to the full album 11-10-30 Halloween Party
