San Diego Christmas
I know that this post has been a REALLY long time coming, but sorting through all the photos, labeling, etc, takes some time. Enjoy!
On one of our flights, Saha had her own seat (lucky for us empty seat) so she watched some Elmo.
We arrived in San Diego early afternoon on Christmas Eve. Jay picked us up from the airport and took us to the house that we rented with a bunch of family. (Thanks Kyrsten, for finding such an awesome house!) We played on the beach and at the playground just a couple blocks down and then went over to Jay and Judy's downtown condo for a Mexican Christmas Eve dinner (tacos and tamales from Yuma).
Christmas morning, Saha woke up around 5:30, since she was still on east coast time, even if we weren't. That was okay, though because Meg, Grace, PJ, and Amiyah were up at 6, opening their stockings. We played with them for a while and everyone else was up by about 8.
We also decorated some cookies while we waited for everyone else to come.
By 9:30, everyone else arrived at the house and we opened presents.
The rest of the day was spent playing on the beach.
In the evening we did the white elephant exchange among the adults and there was some stealing going on, keeping it interesting. The presents of note are a Brewer's Manager bobblehead (which NO ONE wanted), Mom (Purnima) got a country music CD set, and there were a couple funny "potty" reading books.
Monday we stayed around the house in the morning, playing games. A bunch of the group went to see "The Grinch that Stole Christmas" in Balboa Park, but since Saha wasn't old enough to go, we stayed home. More beach time of course and Priya, Allen, Mike and I made samosas for dinner and got the rest of things ready that mom hadn't already prepared in advance.
Tuesday was Legoland day. Saha had a great time. She took her first rides at an amusement park - first trip to an amusement park, in fact. She rode on the little planes with Allen, on the train with me and we all took the boat ride. She also played in the really big playground, but she's still a little small for that.
Wednesday a bunch of ran/walked/jogged the Holiday Bowl Bumble Bee 5k, which was right along the waterfront in downtown San Diego. We had a great morning out in the sunshine. After the race, Judy, Jay, Meg, Amiyah, Grace, Allen, Mom, Dad, Priya, Mike, and I all headed back to the San Diego apartment. A bunch of us showered and then we went over to go ice skating at Horton Plaza. That evening, all the guys (except for Buzz and Mike) went to the Holiday Bowl. The rest of us hung out at the house.
Thursday was San Diego Zoo day. The first place we went was the petting zoo and Saha had a great time petting and feeding the goats. After that we went to the sea lion/dog show. We met everyone else for lunch and then made out way over to see the elephants, which are Saha's favorite. There is even an area with big sculptures of elephants that you are allowed to climb on, which just made Saha's day. By the time we were done with all this, it was around 4-4:30 and time to go home. We had walked all the way across the zoo and because we had the stroller, we couldn't take the tram back, so we had to walk all the way back. Mom, Dad, Priya and Mike stayed behind and explored some more while we went home. That evening was dinner back at the house.
Friday was a lazy day. We played outside and after lunch Lisa, Beth, Priya, and I went to the outlet mall to go shopping. We spent a few hours there and then we all went to dinner in Ocean Beach, for Pizza. Priya left that evening and Allen and I stayed with Jay and Judy downtown to make it easier for them to drop us off at the airport on Saturday. Mom and Dad had left that morning to drive home and Mike had a midmorning flight.
Saturday morning we had a lazy morning at the downtown condo and then Jay and Judy dropped us off at the airport. We ran into the Bourdon's who had a flight about a hour before us and were able to say goodbye one last time.
Our flights were pretty uneventful and we spent the stroke of midnight (new years) on the shuttle to our car. Made it home, put Saha to bed, and had a drink before turning in.
Overall the trip was fantastic and too long coming. Four years is just too long to wait to see family!
